Midnight Meadows is proud to have what we call our ‘senior horse promise.’

We promise to love them as their faces gray, their joints begin creaking, and they are no longer capable of carrying the weight of a child’s dreams on their back. 

We promise to value them as much as our show horses; to provide them with the same standard of care as their ability to make a profit diminishes, and to honour their years of service by loving them until their final day.

It is my biggest blessing as a coach, a horse person, and a grown up horse girl to offer my own life changing childhood pony the retirement living that he deserves, and offering that same kindness to my school horses as they age is a promise to them that I will always keep. 

I promise to care for them even when it means missing out on the next show, the new tack, or the younger horse. I promise to respect everything they have given me, and every dream they made come true; every smile that resulted from their hard work. No business decision will ever overshadow my commitment to the horses that give us everything. 

I promise to teach my students the infinite wisdom of senior horses, and how having the ability to care for them in their age is our greatest privilege. It is no one’s responsibility to care for my senior horses as they become ‘undesirable’ to others but my own, and it is a welcome one.
